Yala National Park and Lunch

A game drive to the most popular national park of the island. With its variety of biomes – spectacular monsoons, thorn garnished hedges, grasslands, freshwater and marine wetlands charted by the sandy beaches of the untouched south-eastern coast, it is the largest and by far the richest insignia in biodiversity, boasting of 44 different resident mammal species and one of the highest leopard population densities in the world. Being home to over dozens of reptile species including turtles, crocodiles, flying snakes and elegant fan-throated lizards, Yala also witnesses no less than 215 resident and migrant species, of which the magnificent peacock is one of the most common.   This is your opportunity to taste the best of country cooking, with a sumptuous farmer’s banquet lunch prepared before your eyes. To work up your appetite, join our resident naturalist on a short trek through the surrounding area for some fascinating bird watching. Afterward, enjoy a spicy local fare of traditional rice with freshly ground coconut sambol, fish curry made from the catch of the day, lentils, young jackfruit curry, and the freshest greens. All vegetables and spices are homegrown and prepared with the utmost attention. Followed by desert which consists of seasonal fresh fruits or local curd and treacle.
