Wildlife Rescue, Sloth Tour, Volcano Walk & Hot Springs
This morning, you’ll be picked up from your hotel for a 50-minute drive through Costa Rica’s countryside to a Wildlife Rescue Institute in the rural town of Javillos. Upon arrival, staff and volunteers will introduce you to their work, offering an educational tour that showcases Costa Rican wildlife and the importance of conservation. Learn about efforts to reintroduce rescued animals to the wild, their stories, and the challenges they face, all while exploring the protective enclosures. The Wildlife Rescue Institute is a non-profit dedicated to rehabilitating injured wildlife for release and educating the public on restoring balance between people and nature. Fully reliant on donations and volunteers, the institute continues its vital mission without government funding. This is followed by a Sloth Tour, where you’ll observe one of Costa Rica’s most iconic animals. Discover the fascinating traits and their role in evolution, sustainability, and conservation of these gentle creatures as they rest high in the trees. Next, head to the Arenal Reserve to explore the rainforest and the Arenal Volcano. Begin a 1.5-hour hike through lush jungle, pausing at clearings for stunning views of the conical volcano. Once among the most active volcanoes, Arenal has rested since 2010. Along the trail, cross historic lava fields from its dramatic 1968 eruption, with glimpses of the shimmering Arenal Lake. After the hike, relax at The Springs Hotel and Spa’s luxurious hot springs. Choose from 18 thermal pools surrounded by lush gardens and enjoy the soothing mineral-rich waters, naturally heated by the volcano. With the majestic Arenal Volcano as your backdrop, unwind completely, perhaps with a refreshing drink from the wet bar. End your day with a delicious dinner at the hotel, feeling renewed and enriched by the day’s adventures.
