Your Travel Experience with Finest Journeys
Whale Watching & Seal Reserve
Today there is a full-day marine-life expedition, beginning with a journey to the picturesque town of Puerto Pirámides. Nestled beneath sandy cliffs on a stunning azure bay, this charming hamlet is the only settlement within Argentina's Valdes Peninsula Nature Reserve. Puerto Pirámides offers visitors an unparalleled opportunity to experience coastal nature at its finest. From August to December, Southern Right Whales gather here to breed, making it one of the world's premier whale-watching destinations. During other months, kayaking trips around the coast provide a unique perspective of the town's breathtaking scenery and diverse wildlife, including penguins, orcas, sea lions, and various aquatic birds. Upon arrival, set out on a whale-watching adventure *(July to mid-December), an unforgettable experience lasting approximately 1.5 hours. During the summer months *(January and February), seabirds, sea lions, and dolphins can be spotted among the cliffs and islets of the Golfo Nuevo. The journey continues to the Southern Elephant Seal Reserve and the intriguing formation of Caleta Valdes, set against a backdrop of Patagonian steppes, cliffs, and the deep blue sea. At Punta Cantor, there is a small colony of Magellan Penguins. Along the way, look out for guanacos, maras, and rheas, as well as native flora. One of the highlights of our trip is a visit to Punta Norte, home to a significant elephant and sea lion colony. From February to April, this area is known for dramatic orca attacks. Nearby, the Estancia San Lorenzo private reserve offers a glimpse into the lives of Magellanic Penguins, marine birds, terrestrial fauna, and archaeological sites.
