Tunis Day Tour
The day begins with a visit to Fondouk El Ghala, or the "Hotel of Fruit," located in Tunis’s Central Market. This colonial building, dating back to 1891, blends Art Deco and Moorish styles and houses one of the largest and most atmospheric fish markets in the Mediterranean. Guided by a chef who has purchased fresh produce here for his family restaurant for over twenty years, the tour offers tastings, anecdotes, and insider tips on selecting the best ingredients. Afterward, you’ll head to the chef’s family-run restaurant, where you'll join the staff in the kitchen for a hands-on cooking experience. You’ll assist in preparing the daily specials, which you’ll enjoy for lunch. In the afternoon, the group will visit Sidi Bou Saïd, a picturesque village known for its white-and-blue buildings and named after the Sufi saint whose Zawiya is located here. The village’s charm and hilltop setting have drawn European artists and intellectuals since the 19th century, including André Gide and Paul Klee. You’ll visit the stunning Orientalist palace built by Baron d'Erlanger, a unique artist and musicologist, and enjoy a cup of tea with a Bambalouni, a fried pastry. The day will conclude with dinner at a refined restaurant in the village.
