Cultural Experience
This morning, after breakfast and an aromatic fresh cup of Costa Rican coffee you will be taken on a private interactive experience where you will learn and practice some Spanish vocabulary, get to know Costa Rican culture and history on a walking tour through the local colonial town of Heredia in Costa Rica's Central Valley highlands, and visit a local Costa Rican home where you will meet just in time for the traditional afternoon coffee.
You will be picked up by your local guide and head to Heredia town. Heredia is Costa Rica's second city with a lot of local flavor and this is where we work together with a locally runed Spanish school, that makes learning Spanish a fun and easy-going process. At the school you will meet with some of the students and then have an interactive session with one of the teachers who will make sure that you learn some great Spanish for during your visit to Costa Rica.
And then it is time to put your newly acquired knowledge into practice! With your local guide, you will head into Heredia town, the provincial capital founded in 1706. A visit to the authentic covered market can't be missed out on. This is where many locals buy their products such as an array of fruits, vegetables, medicinal plants, herbs, meat and seafood. At this market we will try some of the typical Costa Rican fruits. And here you can also enjoy a typical casado' lunch (traditional plate of rice and beans, beef or fish, plantain and salad). Then stroll around the town center to Heredia's Spanish colonial-style landmarks such as the Cathedral, the old colonial home of Gonzalez Flores and El Fortin' and practic your Spanish on the streets.
After visiting Heredia, you will spend the afternoon at a local Costa Rican home and enjoy some of the Costa Rican hospitality during our traditional afternoon coffee. This is without a doubt the best way of getting to know the culture and traditions of Costa Rica. Afterwards, you will be transferred back to your hotel where you might have some time to enjoy the gardens and pool.
What to bring: The highlands can sometimes be fresh. Make sure to bring a wind breaker or sweater as it can get cold on rainy days due to the high elevation (approximately 4,500 ft. above sea level). Also, please bring some pocket money for local purchases.
