Sky Tram, Sky Trek & Sky Walk
Today you will enjoy the beauties of the Arenal Volcano and the surrounding area, on a combination of one of the most famous activities in Costa Rica; the so called Hanging Bridges Hike or Sky walk and Canopy Zip-Line or Sky trek. The Sky Walk and Trek are combined with a ride in the Sky Tram (gondola) that provides for an unforgettable full day excursion in Arenal.You will be picked up at your hotel and taken to the Arenal Nature Reserve, where a bilingual nature guide will accompany you to give a local insight to the surrounding flora and fauna. Until recently, little was known about life in the treetops of tropical forests, as it was nearly impossible to get so high.First, your nature guide will take you on a hike to explore the treetops walking on suspended bridges that span across canyons and through the canopy bringing you face to face with the upper level of the Rainforest. There are five bridges in total, the longest of which spans some 984 ft. with the trail extending for slightly over 2.2 miles (3.6 km), making this tour a true nature lovers experience, walking up and down. Several bridges take you right alongside the canopy of tall trees, some of which have draping their woody lianas over the bridges and colonized it. And you will also be able to enjoy beautiful views of two waterfalls. Second, a ride in an open-air gondola, the Sky Tram, will take you to an observation platform at the highest point of the Arenal Reserve, where you can sit down to enjoy the fantastic views of Lake Arenal, the mountain range, the rainforest and of course the Arenal Volcano. Gently soaring up through the rainforest, the Sky Tram gondolas offer endless views of the landscapes around you and since you will be able to stop the tram at any point, one-of-a-kind photographs can be captured and tropical birds spotted.From the observation deck, you will then commence your Canopy or Sky Trek, riding down on a zip line, stretching across canyons and between treetops in an exhilarating adventure. Zipping along nearly 2 miles of cables, you will see the rainforest as well as get a panoramic view of the volcano and lake from a whole new perspective, ultimately returning you to the starting point at the main building. The Sky Trek is similar to other canopy tour in Costa Rica, but incorporates some significant differences, such as being on a much larger scale, with more zip lines and platforms to explore. Its construction is of the highest quality, utilizing protective and secure materials, including metal platforms and mesh-covered steel rails, which prevent falling or sliding. The zip line is simply there to add a little perspective, so you can tell how high you are or how fast you're going and it adds a nice background to the photographs as well. Although you'll be moving too fast to see much of the wildlife on this part of the tour, it's definitely a thrill worth experiencing!
