Shrines, Temples, and a Tea Ceremony

Your third day in Kyoto continues with a visit to some of its key attractions, including the Heian Jingu Shrine. This striking shrine, established in the late 19th century to honor the Heian period emperors, features expansive grounds and a grand torii gate. Surrounded by tranquil gardens and traditional architecture, Heian Jingu provides a peaceful space for reflection and appreciation of Japan’s cultural heritage. Next, visit notable temples like Sanju Sangendo and Ginkakuji, where you can step inside and take in the beauty of their architecture and serene surroundings. Sanju Sangendo is known for housing 1,001 life-sized statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, while Ginkakuji, also called the Silver Pavilion, is celebrated for its understated elegance and tranquil Zen garden. Later in the day, you will have the chance to experience a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, where every movement and gesture is infused with meaning, reflecting centuries-old customs of mindfulness and respect. The quiet, ritualistic process of preparing and serving matcha tea invites a sense of tranquility, offering a moment of connection to Japan's cultural essence.
