The Elephanta Caves & Local Food Tour

Your day will begin with a morning trip to the Elephanta Caves (closed on Mondays) after breakfast at the hotel. Located on an island near Mumbai, the site features centuries-old rock-cut temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, with detailed carvings that reflect stories from Indian mythology. After the visit, head to Bohri Mohalla, a neighborhood known for its long-standing food traditions and cultural ties to the Dawoodi Bohra community. The Bohras settled in Mumbai in the 13th century and became an important part of the city’s growth by the late 1800s. This area is well-known for its dishes that balance sweet and savory elements, a key feature of Bohra-style meals. As you walk through the neighborhood, sample a variety of foods that have been handed down through generations. Try skewered kebabs, meat-filled chaats, and a distinctive 12-pot meat bhel. There’s also a well-known chicken dish created by a Bollywood actor for a local spot. The tour ends with a stop at Mumbai’s oldest dessert shop, where hand-churned ice cream is still made the traditional way. After the food walk, return to the hotel. The rest of the day is open for rest or personal plans.
