Monasteries & Winery
Begin the day with a visit to Khor Virap Monastery, a significant historical site dating from the 4th to the 18th century. This monastery is renowned for being the place where Gregory the Illuminator, who brought Christianity to Armenia, was imprisoned for 13 years when the site served as a prison. From here, enjoy breathtaking views of the sacred Mount Ararat, a timeless symbol of Armenia, said to be the resting place of Noah's Ark. Next, the tour continues to Areni, a village known as a key hub for wine production. A visit to the family-run Momik winery, where the tradition of winemaking has been passed down for over 40 years, offers a chance to learn about the endemic Areni grape and taste their wines. Lunch will be served nestled in the vineyards. Afterward, travel to Noravank, a 12th-century monastery set against stunning sheer cliffs along a winding gorge, home to a unique sculpture of God the Father. The journey proceeds to Yeghegnadzor, where guests will participate in a local masterclass on making fruit Lavash, a drying method creating "leather fruit". Finally, continue to Goris for an overnight stay.
