Historical and Culinary Delights of Armenia
Today’s excursion begins with a visit to the centuries-old monuments of Ejmiatsin and Zvartnots, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Founded in 303 AD, the Cathedral of Ejmiatsin is the official residence of the Catholicos of Armenia and serves as the spiritual heart of the Armenian Apostolic Church. This ancient cathedral is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of Armenian identity and faith, attracting pilgrims and visitors from around the world. After exploring Ejmiatsin, continue to the ruins of Zvartnots Temple, built in the 7th century by Nerses the Builder. Although only remnants remain today, the site still carries an air of mystery and grandeur. Once a stunning architectural marvel, Zvartnots featured a circular structure with a remarkable dome. As you walk through the ruins, you'll learn about the temple’s historical significance and the reasons behind its abandonment. Both of these sacred sites offer a deep understanding of Armenia’s religious heritage and architectural brilliance. Next, drive to Parakar Village, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Armenian lunch in a local home. During the meal, participate in a cooking masterclass led by a famous Armenian TV star, learning how to prepare the sweet Armenian dessert Sudzukh and homemade pasta Arishta. Participants will receive gifts from the host and have the chance to taste homemade liquor. Afterward, return to Yerevan to visit the Genocide Memorial and Museum at Tsitsernakaberd, dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, a solemn and moving tribute to a painful chapter in Armenian history.
