Full Day Museums & Tapas Tour

In the morning, you will meet your private guide for a half day walking tour of Madrid’s renowned museums. The tour lasts three and a half hours and can include the Prado, Reina Sofía, Thyssen Bornemisza, or Sorolla Museum. Your visit begins at the Prado Museum, home to an extraordinary collection originally created for the Spanish monarchy. Opened to the public in 1819, the museum now houses more than 17,000 works. Among the highlights are pieces by Velázquez and Goya alongside masterpieces by Bosch, Rubens and Titian. The tour continues at the Reina Sofía, where you will see works by Dalí, Miró and Juan Gris. The centerpiece is Picasso’s Guernica, an immense canvas painted in 1937 that portrays the devastation of war. The building itself is striking, a former 18th century hospital expanded by French architect Jean Nouvel. Inside, the collection spans Cubism, Surrealism, abstraction and Pop Art, with sculpture, photography and multimedia installations also on display. Then in the evening, you will join a three hour tapas tour with an English speaking food specialist. You will sample wines and traditional dishes in authentic bars while learning how tapas reflects Spanish culture and social life.
