Exploring Delhi

Start your day with breakfast at the hotel, then at 9:00am, your guide will meet you at the hotel ready for a 3 to 3 ½ hour tour of Old Delhi. You'll visit Chandni Chowk, the main shopping area of this historic neighborhood; Paranthe Wali Gali, a lane known for its stuffed parathas (Indian flatbreads); Kinnari Bazaar, where shops sell decorative items and wedding accessories; and Khari Baoli, the largest wholesale spice market in Asia. Enjoy a unique cycle rickshaw ride from Jama Masjid, Delhi's largest mosque, through the narrow lanes of Old Delhi. Many of these lanes are lined with havelis, some over 200 years old, where people still live in the traditional style. For lunch, head to Haveli Dharampura, a UNESCO-recognized heritage site, offering a glimpse into Old Delhi's grandeur. In the afternoon, shift your focus to New Delhi. Begin with a visit to India Gate, a 42-meter-high arch built in 1931 to honor the 90,000 soldiers of the Indian Army who lost their lives in World War I. Drive past the Presidential Building, the official residence of the President of India. Next, visit Humayun’s Tomb, built in the 16th century by Haji Begum, the senior wife of Mughal Emperor Humayun. This rose-colored sandstone mausoleum is one of the earliest examples of Mughal architecture in Delhi. End the day at Qutub Minar, a 72.5-meter-high victory tower built to commemorate the triumph of the Muslim King Qutub-Ud-Din-Aibak.
