Indigenous Reserve

Following breakfast, you will be picked up from your lodge for a 40 min drive inland to the foothills of the Cordillera de Talamanca to visit an Indigenous Reserve. This is an excellent way to spend the day experiencing the richness of Costa Rica's Pre-Columbian culture. At a small finca at the indigenous community you will experience a demonstration of the process for making organic chocolate. This authentic process has been passed on from generation to generation for nearly 300 years using Pre-Columbian tools. You will also learn about medicinal plants and how the indigenous of the Talamanca area harvest and grow their food, how they cook and how they have built their homes using organic materials found in the surrounding forest. You'll get a unique insight into life in this secluded community as one of the members of the tribe welcomes you into their home to show you around and where you will be able to spot the variety of fruit trees and medicinal plants that they have, as well as prehistoric survival items that they still use today. And after enjoying lunch, you will be transferred back to your hotel to enjoy some more time at the Caribbean beaches..
