Your Travel Experience with Finest Journeys
Today we recommend waking up at dawn to witness the magnificent sunrise over Lake Titicaca before enjoying breakfast in bed as your reward. In the morning your guides will take you by car and boat to visit the legendary Uros Islands and to meet one of the local families that live there. The Floating Uros Islands are located near the protected National Reserve of Titicaca. The people of Uros are a proud culture who due to persecution by other groups found refuge by living on man-made islands many years ago. They call themselves kot-suña or people of the lake who claim to have "black blood," as they are immune to the cold and consider themselves to be owners of the lake and its waters. You'll learn about their history, uses for totora reeds and customs after exploring one of these impressive islands. Less touristy than the reed islands near to the Puno harbor, you'll be able to enjoy a more authentic experience on these strange floating islands before returning to the Lodge for lunch and a siesta. After teatime you can take a bike ride through the fields of Plateria, surrounding the Lodge. This biking excursion will be one of your most memorable bike rides as you follow country roads along the banks of Lake Titicaca offering unrestricted views of the diverse terrain, the magnificent lake and, where you will be able to see the local villager's rural way of life. Arriving back at the hotel in time for cocktails and a delicious dinner, the rest of the evening is free to relax at the lodge and soak up the surrounding peace and quiet.
