Day Trip to Toledo
At 10am you will arrive at Madrid’s train station for the journey to Toledo through your own transportation. The train ride takes about one hour. All seats on this route are of the same standard, as no first class option is available. At 11am you will meet your private guide at Toledo’s train station for a three hour tour. Toledo, once the capital of Spain before Madrid, was home to important schools of science, mathematics, theology and translation, as well as traditions of mysticism and alchemy. Its narrow streets, stone houses and varied places of worship reflect its layered past. You may visit the Museum of El Greco, which houses many works by the artist who lived in the city. At the church of Santo Tomé you will see The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, one of his most admired paintings. The synagogue of Santa María la Blanca, built by Moorish craftsmen in the 12th century, offers a serene hall of white columns and arches. You will also see the Gothic cathedral with its collection of paintings, textiles and treasures, and the monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. After the tour, you will have time for lunch, with Alfileritos 24 suggested, before returning to Madrid on the 5pm train.
