Quito to Otavalo
Upon arriving in Quito, your guide will greet you and arrange your transfer to Otavalo, where you'll spend the next two nights. Along the way, take in the stunning landscapes and stop in Guayllabamba to sample chirimoyas, a heart-shaped fruit native to the area. Another stop in Cayambe offers the chance to visit a local bizcocho factory and taste these traditional cookies. Once in Otavalo, the rest of the day is yours to relax or explore the surroundings. Otavalo, the capital of Otavalo Canton, is a predominantly indigenous town in Ecuador’s Imbabura province, home to approximately 90,000 people. The town is framed by the towering peaks of Imbabura (4,630 meters), Cotacachi (4,995 meters), and Mojanda volcanoes. The Otavaleños take great pride in their heritage, preserving their traditional clothing and customs. Men typically wear white trousers, a blue poncho, and a black hat, while women wear embroidered white blouses, long black skirts—sometimes accented with a white stripe—and often weave colorful threads into their hair.
