Anuradhapura Heritage and Wilpattu Safari

Your day starts with a domestic flight to Sigiriya, a convenient base for reaching Anuradhapura, the ancient Sinhalese capital that shaped Sri Lanka for more than a thousand years. On arrival, you will tour the archaeological zone with your guide, gaining an insight into the scale and influence of this historic city. The ruins include towering stupas, monastic quarters, administrative buildings, and the Sri Maha Bodhi, known as the oldest documented tree in the world. As you move through the site, the advanced irrigation systems and layout of the city highlight the engineering and cultural achievements that defined Anuradhapura’s long period of rule. In the afternoon, you continue towards Wilpattu National Park, recognised as Sri Lanka’s oldest and largest protected area. The park’s landscape of natural lakes, forests, and open plains supports a wide range of wildlife, making it an important destination for nature travel in the country. During your safari, you may see elephants moving through the trees, leopards resting near the water, and sloth bears foraging along the forest edges. Wilpattu is also home to notable birdlife and reptiles, which adds to the experience of exploring one of Sri Lanka’s key national parks on a guided nature tour.
